Just got this working last night
I’m delighted that I’ve finally gotten my personal site to a point where I’m proud to have it available on the internet. The previous setups I used all had their inherent flaws:
- GitHub Pages: All backend was available on my GitHub profile.
- Google Sites: Just looked too amateur, and didn’t allow for the flexibility I wanted.
- WordPress: Was too business/shop front oriented, plus I wasn’t a fan of the editing functions.
This current setup uses Hugo and Cloudflare tunnel on my home lab server for hosting. I’ve hosted my own game servers for a number of years now, but only in the last year have I started self-hosting game servers locally and now web servers. I have quite a few plans for my site and just need the time to get around to setting them all up.
Some ideas for samprescott.net
- Localhost Deepseek trained on my own writings
- Personal email server hosting
- Additional game server hosting
- Basic blog posts (but I guess I’m already doing that)
- Photography posting
- File sharing
- etc…
